Finally, finally, FINALLY! The LOL Surprise Doll House is out!

Ever since LOL Surprise! dolls came out we have been wondering WHERE they are going to live. We’ve cobbled together doll scenes from shoe boxes, plastic bins, and Barbie dream houses. We even made one from the IKEA wooden dollhouse.

But now the wait is over…

The LOL Surprise Doll House (newer version!) is here.

And boy, is it something else. Huge, colorful, and full of pieces, the LOL dollhouse is here to rock your little one’s world.

It’s big in size and price, so check out our parents’ guide to the LOL Surprise Doll House so you can know BEFORE you buy.

UPDATE: There’s a new version of this dollhouse. Find it here.

UPDATE on our update: There’s a NEW winter-themed LOL dollhouse called the LOL Winter Chalet. It has more than 95 surprises! Check out our guide for more info.

1. The LOL Surprise Doll House is 3 feet (about 1 meter) by 3 feet.

Everything about the LOL house is huge. The box it comes in is huge. The house itself is huge. The entire package weighs in at about 44 pounds according to Amazon’s shipping statistics. You will most likely need someone to help you carry it.

Once it’s put together and completely expanded, the base of the dollhouse is about 3 feet by 1.5 feet. That’s a lot of space. You’ll have to make sure you have ample table or floor space to even display this big beautiful house.

2. It’s made of real wood and YOU have to put it together.

Why is the box so heavy? Because the LOL Surprise House is made of real wood (ok, laminated pressed wood).

Like many higher-priced dollhouses, the LOL dollhouse is made to last for a long time. If you take care of it, your little one should be able to enjoy this house for years to come. Scroll down to the bottom of this article for care tips for the LOL Surprise House.

Once you’ve unboxed your little one’s house (we recommend you do it because it will require scissors), you’ll see that it’s flat-packed like a really complicated piece of IKEA furniture.

There are wooden panels…and lots of them.

There is no part of this house already put together for you. You must assemble it yourself.

Fortunately, instructions, tools, and screws are included in the box. We do recommend also having your own Phillips head screwdriver.

Click here to download the official LOL Surprise House instruction manual.

You can find the directions inside the moving truck in the plastic bag with a 2 sided cardboard panel. The Instructions list all the box contents, including furniture and dolls. Check the box to make sure you have all the pieces of the house part first.

Tips for Putting Together the LOL Doll House

Here are a few other tips to hopefully make putting together the LOL Surprise House easier:

  • Ask your little one to go play somewhere else before you get started. Having a little one buzzing around is likely to distract, pressure, and frustrate you. I know it did for me!
  • Read the directions for assembling the house BEFORE attempting to put it together. Assembly is complicated!
  • Layout all the house pieces and screws the way they should be built before starting assembly.
  • Try fitting together some levels BEFORE screwing them in. It’s easy to the panel sides confused.
  • Put the entire house together before unboxing the furniture.

Assembly should take between 15 minutes (if you LOVE putting together furniture) and 1 hour. However, we have heard of some people taking as long as 1.5 hours to put it together. Stay strong…you only have to assemble it once.

3. The LOL Surprise Doll House comes with a reusable moving truck and unboxable furniture.

Inside the massive house box, you’ll find a cardboard box with the wood panels of the house and an aqua cardboard moving truck. What a cute addition!

The moving truck is made of sturdy cardboard so your little one can keep and play with it…as long as you open it carefully.

Inside the moving truck, your little one will find pink and black moving boxes. Each box contains furniture and is labeled with the room in which the furniture goes. Just like you would have for a real move!

All boxes have perforated edges for easy opening but you’ll probably need scissors anyway, so be sure to supervise your little one’s unboxing.

There’s also a plastic bag that contains a real estate sign as well as a sticker pack with stickers of food, containers, and other items.

Again, be sure to open everything carefully so you can reuse the cardboard boxes and your little one can get even more play out of the LOL dollhouse.

4. The huge LOL dollhouse has 3 stories and 6 rooms.

Once you finish putting this behemoth together, step back and admire your masterpiece!

The LOL Surprise Doll House is decorated in a retro 80s style. If there ever was a Miami Vice dollhouse, this is it. The black, white, deep pink, and aqua color scheme echo the LOL Surprise! color scheme, making this house super fun and colorful.

The first floor of the house has 2 rooms: a living room and an eat-in kitchen. The second floor has a bedroom and bathroom. A spiral staircase leads from the second floor to the third floor. On the third floor, your little one will find the dressing room (the box calls it a walk-in closet) that can double as a second bedroom and rooftop patio. On the very top, your little one will find the helipad (assume an LOL doll helicopter is in the works).

How do the dolls get from one floor to the next? On their own private elevator, of course! Dolls can step from the elevator into the main house using the cutout door on each floor.

5. There are real WORKING parts!

What modern dollhouse would be complete without a little bit of tech?

The LOL Surprise Doll House features a few working surprises for your little one. In the living room, she’ll find a lamp that turns on and off, giving actually light. In the bathroom, she’ll find the toilet makes flushing sounds and the bathtub lights up to make it seem like purple rain. And, of course, there’s the elevator, which she can move up and down herself.

Fortunately, BATTERIES ARE INCLUDED!

Check the price of the LOL Surprise Doll House on Amazon.

6. There’s a rockin’ party patio.

Pull out the bottom of the LOL Surprise Doll House and you’ll be on the leisure deck. There are 3 separate pools to enjoy. The big heart-shaped pool is for cold water, while the smaller pool is for the hot tub. Your little one can dip her dolls from the pool to the tub to have them color change and back again.

The pink circle is the sandbox for pets. Unfortunately, the LOL Surprise Doll House does not come with kinetic sand. If you have any other LOL pets, take the sand from them and dump it in the sandbox.

What is kinetic sand you ask?

Kinetic sand is super cool moldable sand. It has the look and feel of slightly wet sand, but it only sticks to itself. That’s right…no spills or sticky surfaces from kinetic sand.

It NEVER dries out so your little one can use it over and over again when playing with her pet.

If you don’t have any LOL pets, you can order and use it for lots of play besides LOL dolls:

7. The day to night patio is actually just a piece of cardboard you flip.

The box makes a big deal about the helipad and day to night patio. Both of these “features” are actually just prints. The helipad symbol is printed on the wooden top of the dollhouse. There is no helicopter included with the LOL dollhouse.

The day to night patio is just the patio on the 3rd floor with a heavy piece of printed cardboard that goes in the top right corner. Your little one can flip it depending on her play.

8. An exclusive 3 doll family is included with the house.

The LOL Surprise Doll House comes with 3 exclusive matching dolls: a big sister, a lil sister, and a pet. You can only get these 3 with the dollhouse. They aren’t sold separately.

The family comes inside a box in the moving truck, not in balls like normal LOL dolls. Blind bags for each doll are also inside the box. There’s a family portrait (like the collector’s poster) with the sticker pack so you see all the cuties before your little one unboxes.

Meet the Family Next Door

Here are the 3 dolls included with the LOL Surprise House:

baby next door family
Image: Young Wild and Me! Kids Toy Channel

Baby Next Door is the big sister of the family and comes with 4 accessories: an outfit, sunglasses, shoes, and bottle. She’s already in her swimsuit, which is not removable. Her outfit fits easily over the suit. Baby Next Door has 2 water surprises. She color changes and spits. When you dunk her in cold water, this big sister gets black stripes on the white parts of her hair and swimsuit as well as black sandals.

Lil Baby Next Door is the lil sister of the family and comes with 2 accessories: a tablet and backpack (sized for the big sister like most lils’ accessories). Rather than being in just a diaper, Lil Baby Next Door is in a swimsuit that matches Baby Next Door’s swimsuit. This lil sister also color changes in cold water to reveal black stripes on her hair and swimsuit.

The pet of the family, Puppy Next Door, comes with 3 accessories: sunglasses, a milk carton bottle, and pet collar. Just like the sisters, Puppy Next Door color changes in cold water to show black stripes and a pink swimsuit.

Since these dolls are part of an exclusive collection, Baby Next Door, Lil Baby Next Door, and Puppy Next Door are all ultra-rare.

9. There are more than 85 surprises.

The LOL Surprise Doll House is definitely full of things to unbox and unbag. All in all, there are more than 85 surprises. In addition to the house, the doll family, and the stickers, your little one gets furniture. And lots of it!

What Doesn’t Come with the LOL Doll House

Here’s what you may have seen on the box or in pictures that DOES NOT come with the LOL Surprise Doll House:

  • A bunch of LOL dolls and pets. Only 2 dolls and 1 pet are included.
  • More bags and accessories. You only get the 9 accessories that come with the dolls and pet.
  • Sand for the sandbox. You’ll have to use sand from another pet you purchased or your own sand.
  • Cups, plates, kitchen utensils, and food. These items were only shown for illustrative purposes on the box.

10. There are so many little touches.

Despite the items it doesn’t include, the LOL Surprise Doll House has so many details for you, your little one, and other LOL doll lovers to discover. The makers of LOL dolls, MGA Entertainment, included details in everything from the decor to the doll accessories.

Here are just a few cute things we noticed:

  • The wrapping paper for moving is like an LOL doll newspaper.
  • Drawers on most furniture open and close.
  • Impressions and decorations on plastic pieces like the pet sandbox.
  • Blind bags have unique packaging.

11. There is a new newer version of this house: Home Sweet Home.

The original LOL dollhouse came out a while ago, so a new version has been released. There are some improvements over the shortcomings of the original house (like the wet pool deck problem), but the style and features are largely the same.

One big difference, Home Sweet Home comes with 1 OMG doll, not the family of tots and lil sisters. If your little one has been waiting to try out OMG dolls, this is her chance!

Care Tips for the LOL Surprise Doll House

Your little one’s LOL Surprise Doll House should be easy to clean and maintain. The laminated wood shouldn’t scratch or stain easily.

Click here to download the official LOL Surprise House instruction manual.

Here are our tips to prolong the life of this wonderfully big and beautiful house:

  • Empty the big pool and hot tub when not in use. They are unlikely to leak but if they do and are in contact with the wood dollhouse for extended periods of time, the water will warp the wood.
  • Dust the house at least once a month. You should be able to use an oil-free furniture spray with no problem.
  • If you need to wash the house for some reason, use a little bit of liquid dish soap mixed with warm water. Rinse with cold water.
  • You can fill scratches using a furniture touch up marker.

    • Hi Jose, it’s hard to say because I didn’t weigh it after putting it together. I’d say maybe 15 to 20 pounds. I think the 44 pound shipping weight is a bit high because there’s some packaging but not 25 pounds worth.

    • Hi Lee,

Amazon.com just got a new stock in and it’s slightly cheaper than it was before. You can use this link to go directly to the page:
      https://amzn.to/2LX5BDk

I think it may be a few weeks before it’s in stores. I haven’t seen it anywhere in my area either.

    • Hi Elaine, our truck is long torn up so unfortunately I can’t. Perhaps someone else will have the exact dimensions. It’s not heave though because it’s cardboard.

  1. Do u think there’s anything u can apply to the wood around the pools to help keep the wood from warping?? I’ve heard complaints on this and not to put water in it but that’s one of the main reasons my daughter even wants this house is to dunk em and see the color change!

    • Hi Carlena, try putting cling film around the bottom outside of the pool. This should form a protective layer between the pool and the wood. You can use just about any plastic or rubber you like to ask as a liner. Hope this help!

    • Hi Jody, they are included but I don’t think you have to necessarily use them. One option is to stick them inside the refrigerator. We put them on little plastic cards and boxes so that they could be put inside the fridge or on the table.

    • Hi Martha, they are included but I don’t think you have to necessarily use them. One option is to stick them inside the refrigerator. We put them on little plastic cards and boxes so that they could be put inside the fridge or on the table. Hope this helps!

  2. I am soooo upset. As instructed my daugher put water in the pool. As I noticed the wood, I gave her a towel to dry up any drips. In merely Seconds of a few drops, it bubbled up the ‘wood’ and part of the flooring ripped off, as if it was paper! I was so disgusted and she was so upset. What do you recommend, other than contacting the manufacturer for a replacement piece ( which I’m sure will never happen ). Any type of laminant or sealant to ‘paint’ on top to thus deter any further damage? Looking forward to any input.

    • Hi Olivia, as far as I know, MGA isn’t giving or selling replacement pieces, but you can always try. Here’s what you might be able to use to ensure no future damage.

      1. Mineral oil
      2. Beeswax polish
      3. Any other non-toxic finish for wooden toys.

Try a craft shop, Hobby Lobby, or Michaels. I think any protectant for wooden butcher blocks and cutting boards would work. Try these 2 from Amazon:
      https://amzn.to/2VukWBn
      https://amzn.to/2VxbrkH

Let me know how it goes!
      Elizabeth

  3. My granddaughter turned nine early December and she got the lol doll house for Christmas. She loves it and we didn’t have anyone to put it together. So I knew she could do it. So she googled the instructions, got out the instructions and a Phillips head screw driver and three hours later it was put together, completely by herself. The only thing we could help with was hold a board to line up the screw holes and that was seldom. She made mistakes but she figured it out and corrected them and kept going. We were so proud of her.

    • Hi Jessica, you can’t buy official replacement parts in stores, but you may be able to get them by checking the many LOL doll facebook groups. Good luck!
