Yay! There’s something new out in the LOL doll world since February 2018…the LOL Pearl Surprise!
Now before you start thinking the LOL Pearl Surprise is just an aqua or purple colored version of the LOL Big Surprise…think again!
The concept of the Pearl Surprise is similar, but it’s definitely not the same. For starters, there are only 11 surprises inside the Pearl Surprise, not 50 like in the Big Surprise.
There are also two editions of the Pearl Surprise: a blue-green one (Edition 1) and a purple one (Edition 2).

Here’s everything you need to know about the Pearl Surprise (well, everything that we think we know about it).
Unboxing the LOL Pearl Surprise
Just like the LOL Big Surprise, the Pearl Surprise comes in a glittery aqua or purple half ball carry case. However, this carrying case is small enough to be used as a purse. The back of the ball is flat.
The theme of the Pearl Surprise is sparkly sea: think mermaids, treasure, ocean.
Each ball contains 11 items:
- 6 exclusive accessories for the dolls inside
- Seashell rainbow fizz (it’s like a charm fizz — more on this below)
- Seashell display for dolls
- Bottle accessory
- Exclusive tot (big sister) doll
- Exclusive lil sister doll
There are 2 different styles of the LOL Pearl Surprise so expect the content numbers to be the same (6 accessories no matter what) but the contents will be different, since the dolls inside are different.
The First Layer: Pearl Accessories
The first layer of the pearl surprise is 6 small iridescent shimmery “pearls” (balls): 3 aqua/sea foam green and 3 white pearls. The purple ball has 3 shimmery purple and 3 black pearls.
Tip: Don’t share the exact contents with your little one–this is for your eyes only.
Here are the accessories included in the first layer:
- 2 pair of shoes
- Skirt
- Seashell t-shirt
- Seashell bikini top
- Bikini bottom
The accessories are 2 different, complete outfits for the tots doll (they are too big for the lil sister). With the accessories available, your little one should be able to make 8 different combinations.
The Second Layer: Giant Rainbow Fizz
The next layer of the LOL Pearl Surprise is a giant rainbow fizz…and boy is it giant. The rainbow fizz is a seashell more than half the size of the Pearl Surprise ball. Forget about the normal LOL charm fizz…this rainbow takes things to another level.
To use the giant seashell rainbow fizz:
- Take the giant seashell out of the pearl ball.
- Unwrap the seashell’s plastic coating.
- The outside of the shell is sandy, so you don’t want to use this in the bath tub.
- Sit the Pearl Surprise half ball on top of the flat Pearl Surprise bottom (so you can use the half ball to soak the seashell rainbow fizz).
- Fill the half ball with halfway with water.
- Carefully place the seashell in the water. It should fizz vigorous immediately.
- Enjoy the beautiful yellow and pink (or pink and purple) colors until the aqua (purple) shell underneath is exposed.
The Third Layer: Seashell Display Stand
After all of the rainbow fizz has melted away, you’ll see an aqua (or purple) seashell.
The seashell is to the Pearl Surprise what the surprise balls are to the other LOL dolls. Meaning, you can put the dolls inside the display stand or put them on the foot prints so they stand inside (like Botticelli’s famous painting, The Birth of Venus.)
But, most importantly, there are two limited edition dolls and one bottle accessory inside the seashell display stand.
Pearl Surprise LOL Dolls
Each Pearl Surprise comes with a coordinating big sister (tot) doll and lil sister doll. These dolls are always the same. For example, if you buy two aqua Pearl Surprises, you will ALWAYS get the same two dolls.
For Pearl Surprise Edition 1, the tot lol doll is named Treasure. Her lil sister is Lil Treasure (of course).
Tip: There is a collectors’ sticker inside the ball that tells you the dolls names.
Dip Treasure in cold water to see her green seashell bathing suit and anchor tattoo on her thigh. Warm water will change her back. Be careful though…she’s a spitter!
Lil Treasure color changes like all the Lil Sisters. Put her in cold water to see her hair turn a deeper red, pacifier turn bright pink, and diaper change to purple. Dip Lil Treasure in warm water to change her back to her original color.
For Pearl Surprise Edition 2, the tot lol doll is named Precious. Her lil sister is Lil Precious.
Precious will color change in cold water: her hair turns deep blue, her aqua and blue swimsuit appears, and a wave themed leg tattoo shows up. Dip Lil Precious in cold water to see her dark blue long sleeved wet suit appear along with a seashell on the back of her diaper.
These cuties are still part of LOL series 3, but in a new club called Pearl Surprise. Treasure is ware while Precious is ultra-rare.

What We Like About LOL Pearl Surprise
- A new ball (the big surprise was getting boring)
- A cool theme

- 2 matching tot and lil sister dolls in each ball
- 2 complete outfits for the tot doll (more variety when mixing and matching) in each ball
What We Don’t Like About LOL Pearl Surprise
- Only 2 dolls included so this isn’t really a gift you can get 2 little ones to share
- Can’t use the rainbow fizz in the bath because of the outside sandy coating
- There’s only 1 rainbow fizz. It would have been really cool if the 6 pearls dissolved as well.
- There’s going to be a feeding frenzy around this toy. Pre-sell prices have ranged from $69.99 to $129.99, but the actual retail price is 29.99. Check the price for Pearl Surprise Edition 1 on Amazon, check the price for Edition 2, and if it’s close to 29.99, buy it!
Final Verdict
The LOL Pearl Surprise is a cool, themed lol toy and a welcomed edition to the world of LOL. The makers of LOL dolls really came up with an interested version of the products already out there. Although there is some value for money, your little girl is sure to love this as a gift!
