Recently nearly every media outlet and mom’s Facebook feed was buzzing with the scathing Facebook post one mom wrote about the LOL Surprise Big Surprise Ball. Seriously, the post went viral and made news around the world.

Even the reviews on Amazon aren’t that good.

But if you’re reading this, a little girl is probably begging you to buy one…and you’re strongly considering it.

If you’re new to LOL dolls, read our beginner’s guide.

Before you go out and buy the LOL big surprise ball, here are 5 things you need to know:

1. There are 50 surprises (not dolls) inside.

50 surprises sound like a lot! But are there 50 dolls, 50 balls, or some combination? Just to be clear, there are 50 surprises (not dolls) inside the LOL big surprise ball.

In general, there are a bunch of mix and match shoes, tops, bottoms, and accessories for dolls to wear. There are 2 big sister tot dolls and 2 lil sister dolls included inside every ball. You also get 5 complete charm fizz surprise bombs inside. Mostly, though, there are stickers.

2. The big sparkly thing is a carrying case — not a ball.

One of the criticisms of the surprise ball is that it’s actually not a ball, like the other LOL balls. It’s half a ball. One side is curved and the other side is flat.

The ball is meant to be a carrying case for all your LOL stuff. It’s actually really smart to keep everything in one place because those little doll shoes get lost easily.

You can also fill the ball with water and use it as a bowl to dissolve the LOL charm fizz bombs.

We even have this idea of turning it into a mobile dollhouse…

3. LOL big surprise balls sell out fast.

If you ever see one in the store and you are considering buying it as a gift, buy it immediately. These balls sell out fast and retailers only keep a few in stock. You can debate while you are in the store but if you leave and think the surprise ball will be there when you come back, it won’t be.

4. You can buy an LOL big surprise ball on Amazon.

Wondering where you can buy lol surprise balls other than in the store? Check the prices on Amazon and get one sent directly to you.

Not only will you avoid the LOL doll stampede (and frantic store to store search), you can also wrap the Amazon box the surprise ball comes in for a double unboxing experience for your little one!

5. You will feel like it is a waste of money but your little girl will love it!

Don’t believe us? Watch this unboxing video to see this little girl’s reaction.

Ultimately, as parents we don’t have to understand why our little ones like something or even like it ourselves. I think if there are things they love, even for a while, we should try to be interested and pleasant if the children are.

Is this toy overpriced? Maybe. Are there just penny toys inside? Maybe. Will your little girl be happy you bought it? Definitely.

Can’t find a surprise ball or don’t want to pay the high price? Consider buying 2 to 4 LOL dolls and this cute dollhouse. You’ll save money, have a gift that can be used with other dolls, and have a beautiful dollhouse your little girl will want to play with even after she doesn’t love LOLs anymore.

  1. Heidee, some people get toys that aren’t out yet if they have the ability to make the maker of these toys more money. For example, if they are a blogger and plan to write an article about the toy, they might email the company asking some questions and tell them their plans to write an article the company will send them a toy sometimes not out yet so they can put pictures of that toy in the article. Or if they do an unboxing video on YouTube, the company will send them a new toy not out yet to do that unboxing video with. These articles, whether good or bad, and these videos make these companies lots of money. Parents read these articles, even if it’s meant to talk down on the toy since not everyone thinks the same way and kids watch unboxing videos and then want these toys too since the video showed how exciting the toys can be.
I think, parents are beyond silly, my daughter has very little surprise toys and what she does have did not come from me. I’m not wasting my money on a toy I cannot see bc I will be highly mad if she ended up with a double of what she already has, regardless of whether or not she can say it’s a twin. Some of them there is more to them then just the doll, so if she gets a double then that takes away from doing the rest of it since she already did it the first time. I have other, more fun things I’d rather waste my money on.
