1. What are L.O.L Surprise! Dolls?
LOL dolls are little baby dolls that come wrapped inside a surprise toy ball. Each ball has layers that contain stickers, secret messages, mix and match accessories–and finally–a doll.
You donât know which doll you are going to get until you get to the last layer. In fact, the doll on the ball is almost never the doll inside.
Since dolls are released in series, not every doll is available all the time.

2. Are there different sizes of LOL surprise balls?
In the store and online you have probably noticed that there are different-sized balls. The larger ball holds an LOL tot or big sister and has 7 layers. Medium balls have lil sisters (baby dolls) with 5 layers. Medium balls are also for pets and have 7 layers. The smallest ball is for charm fizz bath bombs and has 3 layers.
There is also a huge glittery brown limited edition lol surprise ball that has 50 layers to unbox.

Starting with Series 3 Confetti Pop, some LOL doll balls are larger because they have more layers or mechanisms inside. But the ratio of the sizes still holds.
Series 4 Under Wraps Eye Spy tots containers aren’t balls at all — they’re capsules!
However, pets and lil sisters still come in the classic ball.
Well, unless you want Series 5 Makeover Series Lils…then you’ve got another cylinder.
Another LOL doll series, Series 5 Makeover Series, even comes in a container shaped like a hairspray can. (This series is amazing because the dolls actually have hair!)
The point here is that the makers of LOL dolls are constantly innovating around the theme. Therefore, be sure to look for our parents’ guide to the series you are looking to buy so you have all the information you need.
3. What are Lil Outrageous Littles?
LOL stands for Little Outrageous Littles. The original packaging for the first LOL dolls (Series 1) called them LOL Little Outrageous Littles, not LOL Surprise dolls. On the second run of manufacturing, the label was changed to LOL Surprise. So, the ones labeled âLil Outrageous Littlesâ are LOL dolls, just the early versions.
4. How do lol toys work?
Each LOL ball has a number of layers to peel off. The number of layers for the doll is written on the side of the ball. Usually, the layers are secret messages, collectible stickers, bottles, accessories (outfits, shoes, headbands, glasses, etc.), and–finally–dolls. Â
5. How many LOL surprise dolls are there to collect?
It completely varies! We have seen as few as 8 in a series and as many as 45. Some of the Series 1 dollsâ packaging reads 35, which Series 2 dolls read 45+. That means there are AT LEAST 45 tots dolls to collect in series 1, series 2, series 3, and series 4.
However, the LOL universe is constantly expanding. Series 1 had 28 dolls. Series 2 had 83 combined big and lil sisters. There were 34 pets launched as Series 3 Pets. The special edition glitter and surprise series included a total of 16 dolls. There have been at least 8 limited series or major series launched since then. So far, more than 300 different LOL dolls have been launched.
6. How many LOL baby dolls in Series 2?
Series 2 has a total of 83 big (tot) and lil sisters dolls. There are 36 big sisters and 47 lil sisters. Since Series 2 was released so long ago, it will be hard to find and expensive to buy. Fortunately, many of these dolls have been re-released in the Color Change series.
7. What do the dolls do?
LOL dolls can be lots of fun! Big sisters (tots) can change color, pee, cry, or spit.
The head, arms, and legs move so the doll can be put in different positions. Each surprise toy comes with outfits and accessories that the doll can be dressed in.
Lil sisters change color when put in cold or warm water. Although their legs and arms donât move, the head can be adjusted. Fortunately, lil sisters come with accessories that can be worn by any big sister.
8. Which LOL dolls change color?
All LOL lil sisters change color. Unfortunately, only some of the tots dolls change color because it is considered a water surprise. Be sure to look at the collector poster either online or that comes with the doll to see if it might change color. 9. Which dolls pee?
Only some LOL tots (big sisters) pee. Sometimes, there are different versions of the same doll that will pee or spit. Just use the bottle to fill the head with water and squeeze the head to see!
10. Which dolls cry?
Only some LOL tots (big sisters) cry. Sometimes, there are different versions of the same doll that cry, spit, or pee.
11. Are LOL dolls scented?
LOL dolls are not scented. If they smell like anything, itâs fresh plastic.
12. Which LOL dolls are rare?
Not all LOL dolls are produced to the same numbers. Some of them are considered rare.

13. How are LOL dolls made?
The body of an LOL doll is hard plastic. Legs and arms are jointed so that they rotate. The head is made of rubber so that it can be squeezed to make the doll cry or spit. The head pops off and moves around via the hard plastic neck with a ball on top. In the bottom of the doll, there is a small hole for âpeeing.â
14. Are LOL dolls made in China?
LOL dolls are made in China. However, the parent company–MGA Entertainment–is based in California.
15. Are LOL dolls popular?
Definitely! Every production of these dolls has sold out around the world in a matter of weeks.
Parents from Des Moines to Dubai are looking for LOL dolls.
Around Christmas time, the LOL big surprise balls are the most popular version of the toy, followed by the big sister (tots) dolls. Charm fizzes seem to be the least popular since they can easily be found in stores.
16. Are LOL dolls real?
Yes, a counterfeit market has sprung up around LOL dolls. Usually, the dolls you buy from major retailers are real. Most of the dolls on Amazon are real. However, we have heard reports that the 3 doll packs are usually counterfeit. Look closely at the photos and make sure the ball doesnât say LQL.
As for dolls sold on eBay and other sites, buyer beware.
One of the best places to buy the latest LOL dolls is Amazon. If the listing says ships from and sold by Amazon, you know the doll will be real.

How to avoid buying the same dolls over and over again? My daughter becomes very upset over this
Hi Joyce, I think the most safe practice would be to buy from different series and waves. There are so many LOL doll products out for Christmas that this should be easier. Avoid series like the Bling Series that have only a limited number of dolls (12), because that increases the chance for duplicates. If you’re building a collection, consider trading some in the many LOL Facebook groups. Good luck!
We keep getting duplicates. Is there a way to know you are getting a different one by the package?
Hi Simone, you can avoid duplicates by buying from different waves and different series. There’s no way to tell which one is which solely based on the ball outside. There used to “cheat codes” on the serial number packaging but this hasn’t been the case with the last series. Try trading your duplicates in an LOL Facebook group. Good luck!
I am with you. I went to the store and picked up four of these dolls for my daughters. When we got home….. They where the same doll. This was the first time I bought them and I am not trusting to buy more. My daughters opened them up and had fun until they realized they were the same toy. These dolls are not cheep and to spend $80 dollars on toys this small I do not enjoy the fact that they ended up being the same toys when they make it sound like there are so many to get. My daughters picked them out of the same box on the shelf. That leaves me to think that each box as the same doll in it. The problem is that they are flying off the shelf and there were no other boxes left to choose from.
This happened to us today. My daughter used birthday money to buy three LOL glam glitter balls and all three are identical đ Sheâs pretty bummed about it and I agree, it sucks.

Hi Gerardo, LOL dolls comes individually in balls or capsules, not small boxes. If you get 1 LOL doll in a small box, it’s fake. You can buy big boxes that include multiple balls or capsules online. These may be real or fake. Even if they are real, you are likely to get many duplicated dolls in the box.
I got my daughter a lol surprise under wraps and she ended up with Pop Club and it says it color changes but we canât get it to change. Any suggestions?

Hi, I bought a box of 12 under wraps capsules for my daughterâs birthday (Christmas Eve) because I heard they have only 1-2 repeats. Hi April, that’s a tricky one. There have been no official produced LOL doll house accessories other than the ones that come with the house. Here are a few ideas:
1. Try a craft or hobby shop, like Hobby Lobby, to see if they have an items from model trains or towns that would work.
2. Hit the Dollar Store, Family Dollar, or another discount place to see if they have random toys that would fit the doll house.
3. Use items from another set. Calico Critters has a nice supermarket that has lots of small food items:

4. Use Shopkins minis if she has any. Although this might be a little weird because the Shopkins have faces.
5. Make some using old cardboard, poster board, or paper and paint.

Hi James, without seeing the doll, I assume she got “It Baby.” It Baby is a doll from Series 2 wave 1. She’s in the Glam Club and wears a little black dress and big sunglasses. She’s modeled after Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. She’s called “It Baby” like “It Girl”–someone who is a popular celebrity (for the moment).
If your kid drink water in which lol doll was submerged, then is it safe? My daughter drank 3-4 sips accidentally off white murky water of lol doll and I am super worried. She seems completely fine but I am not sure how safe it is.
Hi Anis, I assume it’s safe. The makers of the dolls probably tested a similar scenario when making the doll. I also know that real LOL dolls (not fakes) do not include any plastics that are generally harmful to children. As long as it’s a real doll, your little one will probably be ok. I wouldn’t make doll water drinking a habit though…
Does the RARE AND ULTRA RARE mean that there were not as many made as the rest or why are they put into this category? And the same with the napping dolls. What does that mean?

Exactly. Rare and ultra rare mean there are not that many made or put in circulation so they will special to get. The napping dolls are from a previous wave so they are no longer being produced. Popular napping dolls usually end up in a special glitter or bling series later. Hope this helps!

hello my name is Meagan and I have a bit of a problem with the boy LOL doll. my daughter is six years old and the boy LOL doll has a full blown package. I hope we are all adults here but the boy LOL doll has a penis and balls and my little girl is telling me “its disturbing” I know little kids are curious I have told here boys and girls have ways of using the bathroom.

Hi Ashley, unfortunately it sounds fake. Some retailers have been so anxious to get LOL dolls that they have bought them from disreputable sources. They are unknowingly selling fakes.
I would like to buy more LOLs for a 31/2 yr old, but she has a 1yr old sibling that put everything in her mouth. I hate to tell the 3yo âno, canât have themâ. what are the choking hazards?
Hi Celebs, almost everything on an LOL doll is a choking hazard. The shoes and smaller accessories can easily be lodged in the throat of a really little one. The plastic and blind bags that come with the dolls are also enticing. Anyway that you can steer the 3.5 year old to something else for awhile? I think LOL dolls will be around for quite sometime so maybe it can wait until they are both older.

I see a lot of people asking how to avoid duplicates…I got together with a few other mom’s from my daughter’s class to be “LOL buddies” we have charts for requests, with dates and rotation schedules…it’s a whole thing. This has saved me SO much money. Now if they would quit putting “dog bone scent” in all the toys I’ll be ok đ

Hi there, the collector’s poster is just a folded sheet that shows the dolls in the series. All regular series dolls have them. It’s easy to overlook because it’s not a big proper poster.
